Dr. Fatima Elsheikh, a proud daughter of Sudan, is a seasoned development strategist, sustainability champion, and global policy advisor whose work spans over two decades across Africa, Asia, and the Arab world. With deep roots in humanitarian advancement and economic transformation, Dr. Elsheikh is currently serving as the Strategic Advisor to the Director General of BADEA – the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa. In this pivotal role, she supports the leadership of BADEA in steering its 2030 Vision, a roadmap for shared prosperity aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

At the heart of her work lies an unwavering commitment to promoting regional economic integration, renewable energy, development finance, and Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG). Dr. Elsheikh plays an integral role in aligning the bank’s strategic pillars with Africa’s evolving economic and social landscapes, ensuring that development financing fosters inclusive growth and long-term resilience.

A former United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in the Republic of Djibouti, Dr. Elsheikh is known for her results-driven and innovative approach to development planning, coordination, and implementation. Her leadership has consistently advanced policies that reduce poverty, support private sector development, expand employment opportunities, and promote sustainability in vulnerable regions.

Her global footprint in development work is extensive. She has held high-level roles including Chief Technical Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office with UNDP in Timor-Leste and Head of Poverty Reduction with UNDP in her home country of Sudan. In each position, Dr. Elsheikh distinguished herself as a thought leader with a keen ability to establish ecosystems that empower local actors, particularly small and medium-sized social enterprises, to deliver critical services and improve livelihoods.

Dr. Elsheikh’s contributions have been recognized through prestigious global awards, particularly for her impactful work in youth employment and sustainability. A woman of remarkable academic pedigree, Dr. Elsheikh holds a Medical Doctor degree from Ahfad University for Women in Sudan, a Master’s in Genetic Epidemiology from Erasmus University in the Netherlands, and a Diploma in Development Policy Advisory Services from Columbia University in the United States. Her interdisciplinary expertise uniquely blends medical science, policy, and data-driven strategy, positioning her as a transformative leader at the intersection of health, development, and finance.
